Welcome to issue 4/2022 of K-PROFI international with exclusive impulses for plastics processors. On page 6 you can read how Polibak retrofits a BOPP line with an inline coating unit for the production of mono stretch films. On page 8 we have researched how Pöppelmann Kunststoff-Technik integrates a wide variety of plastic welding systems into highly automated production cells for automotive assemblies and industrial products. Read from page 14 why the sanitary products manufacturer Geberit relies on granulators with intelligent control and saves up to 50 % energy in the production of regrind.
The injection moulder Novapax Kunststofftechnik Steiner has created space in production with a centralised material supply and considerably reduced energy consumption: page 18. The fine, informal “Swiss Plastics” trade fair is the first event of 2023 in Lucerne in mid-January. What awaits visitors from Switzerland, eastern France or northern Italy in a short preview on page 25.
In October, the world’s leading trade fair “K 2022” took place in Düsseldorf – in a surprisingly positive mood (page 26). And this despite the fact that there were 9 % fewer exhibitors and 21 % fewer visitors than three years ago. You can read more figures and data about the fair on page 28. “The great commitment to the circular economy” is the title of our follow-up report, because the fair proved the will of producers, machine builders, processors and OEMs to transform the plastics industry into a circular economy. You can read the first assessment “Even after K 2022 there is still a lot to do” on page 30, followed by some highlights on product innovations.
At K, the VDMA presented the benefits of a uniform machine language to plastics processors. We learned from representatives of the association and the injection moulding machine industry how the “Umati” initiative intends to promote the OPC UA standard and digitalisation (page 34).
